Hamas Movement considered the UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres’s visit to the blockaded Gaza Strip an important step especially in light of the decade-long siege imposed on the Strip and the escalation of the Israeli violations against the Palestinian people.
The spokesman of the Movement Fawzi Barhoum expressed in a statement on Wednesday his appreciation of Guterres’s speech on the necessity of achieving national reconciliation. Hamas is keen on reaching reconciliation and ending the internal division Barhoum asserted.
The Hamas spokesman urged Guterres to pressure the Israeli authorities in order to end the siege on Gaza and halt its ceaseless violations of Palestinians’ human rights.
