The Hamas Movement has strongly denounced outgoing UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon for criticizing the UNESCO’s approval of a resolution on Tuesday confirming that the Aqsa Mosque is a purely Islamic heritage landmark.
In a press release on Wednesday Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri called Ki-moon’s remarks on the decision taken by the UNESCO’s executive board regarding the Aqsa Mosque as a “departure from the authority vested in him to represent the official resolutions issued by the UN.”
Abu Zuhri also accused the UN chief of violating international resolutions in order to please Israel and serve its interests.
Ki-moon on Tuesday slammed the UNESCO for adopting a resolution confirming the Aqsa Mosque as an Islamic holy site belonging purely to the Muslim nation claiming that the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls are important to the followers of the three heavenly religions.
