Wednesday 22-August-2018

In a statement marking the 49th anniversary of the arson attack on al-Aqsa Mosque Hamas said that the liberation of al-Aqsa Mosque will only take place by paying a price.

Hamas said that the movement and all Palestinian people are able to continue the struggle by all means until the liberation of Palestine the return of refugees and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The movement noted that the 49th anniversary of the arson attack on al-Aqsa Mosque coincides with a stepped up deportation and displacement campaign targeting the Palestinian citizens of Jerusalem.

It added that Israel’s Judaization attempts in Jerusalem have the full support of the US which has “exceeded all lines” by moving its embassy in Israel to the holy city.

The Palestinian movement described Israel’s new Jewish nation-state law as “ethnic cleansing” and “religious war” that disregards the feelings of millions of Arabs and Muslims.

Hamas stressed that the heart of the conflict with Israel lies in the goal of “liberating the land of Palestine and its Islamic and Christian holy sites especially Jerusalem and al-Aqsa Mosque”.

As for the Palestinian internal division Hamas said that the shortest way to achieve reconciliation is to abide by the 2011 agreement lift the sanctions imposed on Gaza by the Palestinian Authority and prepare for general elections with the participation of all factions.

Hamas explained that talks are underway in Cairo with the aim of breaking Gaza blockade and ending the suffering of the Palestinian people in the seaside territory.

On 21st August 1969 the extremist Dennis Michael Rohan set fire to the pulpit of al-Aqsa Mosque burning important parts of the Islamic holy site. His action had the apparent blessing of the Israeli occupation forces.
