Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements called on Monday on the Palestinian people to support al-Aqsa Mosque through escalating the Jerusalem Intifada.
The two movements held in a joint press statement the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the repercussions of the latest escalation targeting al-Aqsa Mosque.
They urged Palestinians in the Palestinian territories and the diaspora to launch mass demonstrations against the Israeli aggression on the holy site.
The movements accused the “extremist” Israeli government of igniting a religious war in the region by pursuing racist policies against Muslim worshipers and Islamic holy sites in Palestine.
They stressed that sovereignty over al-Aqsa Mosque must return to the Islamic Awqaf Department and demanded halting the current Israeli measures in the Mosque.
Hamas and Jihad asked the Arab masses to support al-Aqsa Mosque and pressure their governments to sever their ties with Israel.
A state of tension has prevailed at al-Aqsa Mosque especially after Palestinian worshipers refused to enter the shrine via metal detectors newly installed at its gates.
