Hamas asks Abbas to cancel his punitive decisions against Gaza

Sunday 24-September-2017

Hamas Movement on Sunday expressed its surprise that the statement of the Fatah Central Committee did not contain any decisions related to the cancellation of the punitive measures launched by the Palestinian Authority (PA) president Mahmoud Abbas against Gaza.

Hamas’s spokesman Fawzi Barhoum in a statement said that procrastination is no longer justifiable and called on Abbas to take some positive steps and cancel all these measures which have adversely affected Gazans’ lives.

Barhoum called on all Palestinian factions and civil society institutions to pressure Abbas to backtrack on his decisions.

In a statement following its meeting in Ramallah on Saturday the Fatah Central Committee welcomed Hamas’s decision to dissolve the administrative committee and asked the PA government to go to Gaza without saying anything about the collective punishment measures waged against the Gaza Strip.

In response to Hamas’s formation of the administrative committee in Gaza the PA in April launched a collective punishment campaign against the Gaza Strip that included reducing power supplies halting medical referrals cutting the salaries of the Gaza employees and forcing some of them into early retirement.

Hamas Movement on 17th September decided to dissolve the administrative committee invited the PA government to come to Gaza and assume its responsibilities and declared its acceptance of holding general Palestinian elections.

Palestinian factions praised Hamas’s move and the Islamic National Committee for Development and Social Solidarity called on the PA president to end the sanctions imposed on Gaza.
