Hamas asks Arab Islamic countries to follow Qatar’s suit

Monday 4-December-2006

Gaza- The Hamas Movement on Monday appreciated the Qatari supportive stand of the Palestinian people and invited the Arab and Islamic countries to follow suit and break the unjust siege imposed on the Palestinian people.

Dr. Ismail Redwan a spokesman for Hamas told the PIC that the Qatari initiative in paying salaries of 40000 Palestinian teachers to the tune of 22 million dollars reflected the strong link between the two peoples.

He said that the Qatari step which also expressed readiness to pay salaries of the Palestinian health workers displayed Doha’s sincere attempt to break the siege imposed on the Palestinian people in application of the Arab foreign ministers’ decision.

“We hope that this good step would be followed by others with the aim of breaking the siege” Redwan pointed out.

The Hamas spokesman urged the Arab and Islamic rulers and ruled to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and to contribute to lifting the “oppressive economic and political blockade imposed on them” highlighting that the Palestinians were defending the holy Aqsa Mosque and the dignity of the Arab and Muslim Ummah.
