Hamas delegation returns to Gaza following Cairo meetings

Thursday 1-March-2018

A Hamas delegation led by the group’s Political Bureau head Ismail Haneyya returned to Gaza afternoon Wednesday after it wrapped up a round of meetings with Egyptian officials.

A number of Hamas leaders including Khalil al-Hayya Rawhi Mushtaha and Fathi Hamad arrived in Cairo on February 9 and held a series of meetings with Egyptian officials in Cairo.

The two sides discussed several issues including internal reconciliation with Fatah handover of government offices in Gaza bilateral ties with Egypt and the calamitous humanitarian situation in the blockaded Gaza Strip.

Hamas leaders Mousa Abu Marzouk Ezzet Resehq Mohamed Naser and Saleh al-Arouri among others joined the delegation a few days later.

At the same time an Egyptian delegation led by Sameh Nabeel arrived in the besieged Gaza Strip on Sunday and met with Palestinian officials and Hamas leaders as part of underway attempts to prop up Palestinian reconciliation and enable the consensus government to take up its mission in the enclave.
