Hamas denounces recent statements by Fatah officials

Monday 27-November-2017

Member of the Hamas Political Bureau Khalil al-Hayya on Monday criticized the media uproar that followed statements by some Fatah officials in the past two days saying that some parties are acting against the reconciliation.

Hayya affirmed that Hamas will never regret what it has done and will continue to do for the sake of the Palestinian people.

During a press conference held by Hamas movement in Gaza on the latest Cairo meetings he decried the repeated statements by Fatah officials about “empowering the government” calling on Fatah movement not to give an ear to external pressures and temptations.

The Palestinian official stressed the importance of providing political support for the reconciliation locally regionally and internationally.

In another context Hamas assured the Gazan employees who were appointed after the 10th government took office that they are “a red line that cannot be crossed in any way” and vowed to protect their rights.

Hayya who is a member of the Palestinian legislative Council (PLC) said that the Palestinian Authority (PA) government is required to gain the confidence of the Council stressing the importance of activating the supervisory role of the PLC and explaining “The government’s work should be monitored by the Palestinian people and their representatives.”

He welcomed the Egyptian delegation that arrived in Gaza on Monday to follow up the reconciliation process and called for facilitating its mission.

He denounced the PA’s delay in lifting the sanctions imposed on the Gaza Strip and linking it to the full empowerment of the PA government adding that these sanctions are no longer justifiable.

Regarding the recent Cairo talks Hayya affirmed that all factions were prepared to discuss the reconciliation files in accordance with the 2011 agreement while Fatah’s representatives were trying to cancel or postpone the meetings for reasons they did not mention.

The Hamas official asked the PA president Mahmoud Abbas to set a date for general elections which Hamas is prepared for at any time.

He reiterated that Hamas is ready to fully implement all the terms related to the security file and included in the 2011 agreement.

On disarming the resistance movements Hayya asked all politicians and spokesmen not to talk about this file which he described as non-debatable. He added “The resistance weapons will be even moved to the West Bank to fight the occupation. It is our right to resist the occupation until it ends.”
