The Hamas Movement on Friday organized sit-ins in solidarity with the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar (Burma) who are being exposed to ethnic cleansing and heinous massacres by the authorities and Buddhist fanatics.
Dozens of citizens rallied outside al-Khulafa Mosque in Jabalia refugee camp following the Friday prayer carrying placards condemning the crimes against the Burmese Muslims and calling for protecting them.
During this rallying senior Hamas official Osama Hammad called for pooling the efforts to support the Muslims in Burma provide them with aid and pray for them.
Another sit-in was held in solidarity with the Burmese Muslims in al-Nazla area of Jabalia where speakers from Hamas called for supporting them and condemned Israel for providing the Buddhist government in Burma with weapons.
Similar sit-ins also took place in the evening in Khan Younis south of Gaza and in different areas of central Gaza including Deir al-Balah and the refugee camps of al-Maghazi al-Bureij and Nuseirat.
Addressing crowds of citizens in al-Bureij camp Hamas official Khalil Shahin said that the UN must move to assume its responsibilities towards the Muslims in Burma and curb the authorities’ inhumane crimes against them.
“The world’s nations are demanded to deal with Burma’s Buddhists as war criminals after they committed crimes of ethnic cleansing and racial discrimination” Shahin underlined.
He also applauded Qatar and Turkey for hastening to extend humanitarian help to the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh calling on other Islamic countries to follow suit.
