A high-level delegation from the Hamas Movement led by head of its political bureau Ismail Haneyya met on Wednesday with Tatarstan president Rustam Minnikhanov.
Tatarstan is one of the constituent republics of the Russian Federation. Its capital and largest city is Kazan an important cultural center in Russia.
During the meeting Haneyya congratulated president Minnikhanov on the 1100th anniversary of Islam conversion by the Volga Bulgar peoples and on the selection of Kazan City as the youth capital of the Islamic world for 2022 according to a statement released by the Hamas Movement.
The Hamas leader urged the Tatarstan leadership to employ this important Islamic title that was given for its capital city to support Palestine and Jerusalem.
Haneyya put the Tatarstan president in the picture of the latest developments in the Palestinian arena especially with regard to Israel’s violations in Jerusalem and other areas of the occupied territories and its blockade on the Gaza Strip.
He called for necessarily supporting the Palestinian people and make efforts to protect the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Palestine against Israel’s Judaization plans.
The Tatarstan president for his part hailed the Palestinian people for their steadfastness on their land and their belief in their ability to achieve their national aspirations.
He also expressed his support for the Palestinian people’s struggle for their right to live with freedom and dignity like other peoples of the world.
