Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri has expressed his Movement’s thanks and gratitude to Algeria for its great and tireless efforts to have Israel’s observer status in the African Union (AU) revoked.
“Hamas has been closely following the ongoing preparations for the upcoming African summit in the Ethiopian capital slated for the fifth of next February and the success of the brotherly state of Algeria’s efforts to put the file of expelling the occupation state from the African Union as an observer at the top of the summit’s agenda” Abu Zuhri said in press remarks on Friday.
He affirmed that such Algerian position is highly regarded and appreciated by the Palestinian people describing it as a reflection of Algeria’s nobility.
The Hamas official urged other Arab and African countries to positively respond to Algeria’s efforts in this regard and cooperate with it for the success of its step.
He also said that the Algerian position “reflected the Arab nation’s spirit and the African continent’s principles” stressing that “the expulsion of the occupation state from the African Union should be the demand of all of its member states.”
“The presence of the occupation state at any level of the Union contradicts the African continent’s principles and its historical legacy of fighting the apartheid regimes which the Israeli occupation represents in its ugliest form” he underlined.
