Hammad rebuts claims about appointing him head of energy authority

Wednesday 8-March-2017

Deputy minister of foreign affairs in Gaza Ghazi Hammad has categorically denied that he was appointed as head of the energy authority in the besieged enclave.

In press remarks to Quds Press on Tuesday Hammad said what had been published by some media outlets about appointing him by Hamas as the director of the energy authority was untrue.

He also deplored the cabinet of the Palestinian unity government in Ramallah for releasing a statement in this regard based on inaccurate information.

A statement issued by the government had claimed that Hammad was assigned by his Movement Hamas to head the energy authority in Gaza and described the step as insistence on deepening the rift in the Palestinian arena and preventing the government from assuming its role in managing the electricity sector.

The government also held Hamas fully responsible for the consequences of such appointment saying it would further worsen the population’s suffering from the power crisis.
