Haneyya and Abbas discuss US position towards Occupied Jerusalem

Monday 4-December-2017

Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya on Sunday evening phoned Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas and discussed with him the serious US position towards Occupied Jerusalem.

“As part of his efforts to strengthen the national positions towards the issue of Jerusalem and the challenges resulting from the American intents with regard to recognizing Jerusalem as a capital for the occupation (Israel) Haneyya telephoned president Mahmoud Abbas” a statement released by Haneyya’s office said.

According to the statement the two sides had in-depth discussion about the US intents towards Jerusalem and their implications and they agreed on the need to strengthen the internal front in the face of such challenges and take strong steps towards the reconciliation process.

Over the phone Haneyya described the intended US steps towards Jerusalem as “very dangerous” and called for joining forces to confront them warning that these US moves if taken would kill the peace process once and for all.

President Abbas in turn said he would make important decisions if the US administration recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and agreed with the Hamas leader on the importance of organizing angry popular rallies against such US step.
