Haneyya briefs Sudanese president on developments of reconciliation

Head of Hamas’s Political Bureau Ismail Haneyya on Sunday phoned the Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir and briefed him on the latest developments of the Palestinian reconciliation file.

According to a statement released by his office Haneyya praised the Sudanese efforts to achieve national unity that has been ongoing since the Khartoum talks in 1990s and congratulated al-Bashir on the US decision to lift the economic sanctions on Sudan.

For his part president al-Bashir welcomed the reconciliation agreement and affirmed that his country will continue to the support the Palestinian people stressing that the Palestinian cause is a central issue for the Arab world.

Hamas and Fatah movements on Thursday signed an Egypt-sponsored reconciliation agreement in Cairo that allows the Palestinian Authority government to take full responsibility for the Gaza Strip.

Over the past two days Haneyya has called several Arab Muslim and international leaders to brief them on the details of the Cairo agreement.
