Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya has sent a letter to chairwoman of the UN General Assembly Maria Espinosa expressing his condemnation of the persistent US efforts to provide every support possible for the Israeli occupation state at the expense of the Palestinian people’s just rights.
Haneyya’s letter was about the US administration’s intention to introduce a draft resolution at the General Assembly condemning the Palestinian people’s resistance of Israel.
“The latest American effort to back the Israeli occupation is the intent of the US representative to the General Assembly to submit a draft resolution condemning the Palestinian resistance and our people’s right to defend themselves against racist occupation ongoing for more than seven decades” Haneyya said.
He added that the administration of president Donald Trump went too far in its bias in favor of Israel through seeking to reduce the number of UN resolutions on the Palestinian question at the pretext that many of those decisions were biased against Israel and harmful.
He pointed out that the Trump administration decided to take such moves in conjunction with the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people which falls on November 29.
The Hamas official affirmed that several important resolutions adopted and issued by the General Assembly from 1970 to 1985 highlighted the legal status of the resistance and national liberation movements in the world.
He expressed his Movement’s belief that members of the General Assembly would block such US steps and continue to support the international legitimacy that confirm the right of all nations around the world to defend themselves.
He underlined that “the Israeli occupation of Palestine depriving its people of their basic rights and their exposure to forcible displacement settlement activities and blockade are acts of terrorism and main reasons for the continuation of violence in the entire region.”
His letter confirmed the Palestinian people’s right to defend themselves and resist the occupation by all means including the use of armed struggle as a legal right protected by the international law.
The letter also pointed to the fact that “Hamas is a Palestinian national liberation movement that strives to defend its people until they obtain their basic rights.”
The Hamas leadership urged the international community to work diligently on ending the occupation and help the Palestinian people achieve their aspirations for freedom and independence.
It also called for making concerted and immediate efforts to put an end to the suffering of the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip which has been under ongoing inhumane and illegal blockade for over 12 years.
