Hayya: We are committed to reconciliation to save national project

Wednesday 8-November-2017

Member of the Hamas Political Bureau Khalil al-Hayya on Wednesday affirmed that his Movement went for reconciliation in order to save the national project and devote itself to resisting the Israeli occupation.

Hayya said in an interview with al-Aqsa TV channel “Whoever bets that Hamas came to reconciliation weak broken or forced is wrong.”

He stated that all steps taken in accordance with the reconciliation agreement so far have been completed successfully adding that his Movement wants “the Hamas-affiliated Palestinians in the West Bank to enjoy the same freedom the Fatah-affiliated Palestinians have in Gaza”.

He stressed that Israel is the only party that does not want this reconciliation to succeed.

In a related context Hayya explained that there is a national consensus that both the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian National Council need to be reformed with the participation of all Palestinian factions.

The Hamas official stressed the need to establish a provisional national unity government until elections are held.

Fatah and Hamas movements on 13th October signed an Egypt-sponsored reconciliation agreement in Cairo that allows the Palestinian Authority government to take over all government institutions in Gaza and calls for a comprehensive national dialogue in November.
