NABLUS (PIC)– Hundreds of Israeli settlers stormed at dawn Monday Nabi Yusuf tomb east of Nablus amid heavy military protection.
The settlers arrived to the area in buses escorted by Israeli army troops in military vehicles since the early morning hours and started performing Talmudic rituals marking a Jewish holiday in total provocation to the local residents.

Meanwhile Israeli occupation forces have intensively deployed throughout the neighboring streets amid heavy fire of tear gas canisters and sound bombs eyewitnesses told a PIC reporter.

Clashes broke out in the area during which IOF soldiers fired rubber bullets and tear gas bombs at local youths who were protesting the settlers’ break-in. Many Palestinians choked on the teargas during the clashes.

Hebrew media sources revealed that two thousand settlers broke into the tomb and that an Israeli soldier got slightly injured during confrontations that ensued. The soldier was taken to an Israeli hospital for treatment the sources added.

Jewish settlers conduct repeated incursions into the Nabi Yusuf tomb which Palestinians believe is a tomb for a Muslim man called Yusuf Dweikat from Balata town in Nablus and not the one of prophet Yusuf.

The site has been a focus of tension after Israel occupied the West Bank in 1967. Since then Jewish settlers have been visiting the site under Israeli protection while provoking Palestinians by their offensive practices which usually lead to clashes with Palestinian youths.
