IOA builds synagogue few meters away from Aqsa Mosque

Saturday 13-January-2007

OCCUPIED JEUSALEM (PIC)– The Aqsa foundation that caters for the holy shrines in occupied Palestine has affirmed that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) is expediting the construction of a Jewish synagogue just 50 meters away form the Aqsa Mosque one of the Muslims’ holiest shrines worldwide.

The foundation quoted Palestinian citizens residing near the construction site as saying “Construction works in the site started a month and a half ago in an area occupied by Jewish groups in 1967 as an initial step to build the synagogue”.

According to the foundation Palestinian locals intervened and demanded the immediate halt of the construction works; yet the foundation added the Israeli workers and officials alleged they were merely maintaining the place and that they have no intention to seize it.

However Palestinian citizens owning the area didn’t buy the Israeli allegations as they affirmed that all indicators affirm that the IOA was and still is intending to control the site which is an Islamic Wakf (endowment).

The Islamic Awkaf carried out intensive contacts with the concerned parties in a bid to preserve its property and to prevent the IOA from seizing the place adding “All Israeli construction works in the occupied city of Jerusalem are illegal under international laws being an occupied city”.
