IOA displaces Jerusalemite family after forcing it to raze home

Sunday 25-September-2022

The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) displaced on Sunday morning a Palestinian family after forcing it to demolish its own house in the Old City of Jerusalem at the pretext of unlicensed construction.

According to local sources the family of Farid Jaber had to demolish its home near Bab al-Asbat area in the east of the Old City after receiving a demolition notice from the Israeli municipality.

The family was ordered to raze the house at their own expense if it wanted to avoid paying heavy demolition expenses and fines to the municipality.

A family of eight was rendered homeless as a result of the Israeli measure.

Hundreds of Jerusalemite homes are threatened with demolition or appropriation as part of Israel’s Judaization plans in the holy city.

The Jerusalemites have no choice but to build without licenses because there are no structural maps that respond to the natural increase in their numbers.

The IOA also imposes building restrictions on the Palestinian natives in Jerusalem and makes it hard for them to obtain construction licenses.

Israel’s systematic demolition of Palestinian homes in the occupied holy city is believed to be aimed at psychologically destroying the Jerusalemite families in an attempt to force them to move from the city.

The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) displaced on Tuesday a Palestinian family after forcing it to demolish its own home in the east Jerusalem district of Issawiya at the pretext of unlicensed construction.

Last May the family had to pay an exorbitant amount of money to the IOA to stop it from demolishing the entire house after it knocked down part of it.

Today’s measure led to the displacement of six individuals including children.

Quds Press quoted Farouq Mustafa the homeowner as saying that he and his family were surprised by an Israeli decision this morning ordering them to immediately demolish their house despite the presence of a court order freezing the measure.

He said he had to carry out the measure at his own expense to avoid paying the IOA heavy demolition expenses and fines.

In a separate incident Israeli bulldozers demolished on the same day several residential structures near Jericho City.

Eyewitnesses told Quds Press that bulldozers escorted by Israeli soldiers stormed Allan community near Jiftlik village in the north of Jericho and embarked on destroying six structures four of them used by local families as homes.

As always the Israeli army justified the demolition measure by claiming that the structures were built with no licenses.

The Palestinians in the occupied territories have no choice but to build on their own lands without licenses because there are no structural maps that respond to the natural increase in their numbers.

The IOA also imposes building restrictions on them and makes it hard for them to obtain construction permits.
