IOA to raze house of chief Aqsa guard Fadi Elyan in Issawiya

Monday 22-February-2021

The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) in Jerusalem on Sunday notified chief guard of the Aqsa Mosque Fadi Elyan of its intent to demolish the two-story house of his family in Issawiya district on Monday.

According to Elyan the IOA intends to demolish the house which accommodates 17 individuals of his family including 12 children.

He affirmed that the house was built in a zoned area of Issawiya where construction is permitted by the Israeli authorities expressing his belief that such measure is aimed at punishing him for his job and preventing him from working at the Aqsa Mosque.

An Israeli court last August rejected a request asking for freezing a demolition order against the house of Elyan in Issawiya after it had prohibited the family from continuing its efforts to obtain a permit for the house.

Chief guard of the Aqsa Mosque Fadi Elyan had been arrested and banished from the Islamic holy site several times after he prevented attempts by Jewish settlers and police officers to desecrate the Mosque’s prayer buildings.
