IOF quells night protest against settler outpost in Nablus

Tuesday 8-June-2021

Violent clashes broke out on Monday evening between Palestinian young men and the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) near the illegal settler outpost on Mount Sobeih in Beita town south of Nablus.

According to local sources the clashes started after the IOF attacked the young men as they staged their nighttime protest against the presence of Jewish settlers on Mount Abu Sobeih in the town.

The IOF intensively showered the local youths with tear gas and stun grenades and fired live and rubber bullets at them.

For several weeks local youths from Beita town and other areas of Nablus started to organize nightly protest events as a form of popular resistance against the Israeli occupation and its settlers who set up an outpost on Mount Sobeih.

During the events the young men torch tires use loudspeakers to play religious slogans national songs and sirens and flash laser beams and flashlights at the settlers on the mount.

Organizers say the night rallies are aimed at creating confusion among the settlers and forcing them to leave the area.

In recent days three young men from Nablus were killed during their participation in these protest events. They were identified as Zakariya Hamayel Issa Burhom and Tareq Sanawbar.
