IPS prevents Abu Hamid from contacting his family

Thursday 27-October-2022

The Israel Prison Service (IPS) is preventing the cancer-stricken Palestinian prisoner Nasser Abu Hamid from contacting his family.

“The IPS deliberately practices the policy of medical negligence against prisoner Abu Hamid despite his deteriorating physical and mental health condition” the spokesperson of the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority Hassan Abd Rabbo said in a press statement on Thursday.

He added that Abu Hamid stopped receiving chemotherapy sessions two months ago as his body is no longer able to bear or respond to them.

Abu Hamid’s health has been rapidly deteriorating and he suffers from severe dizziness and breathing difficulties in addition to using a wheelchair to move.

Latest medical reports showed that chemotherapy sessions will not be meaningful as they will only cause pain and it will not do any good. Abu Hamid’s doctors decided to give him more painkillers instead.

Abu Hamid who is from the Al-Amari refugee camp in Ramallah and who has been detained since 2002 is serving seven life imprisonment sentences and 50 years.

Around 600 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are suffering from various diseases including 23 diagnosed with cancer or cancerous tumors.
