IPS transfers many Palestinian prisoners to other cells and jails

Tuesday 7-September-2021

Following the escape of six Palestinian prisoners from Gilboa jail on Monday the Israeli prison service (IPS) has embarked on carrying out large-scale inter-prison transfers and moving prisoners from their cells and jails to other places.

According to the Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs some prominent prisoners from Islamic Jihad were transferred to the Jalamah interrogation center.

The IPS also shut down Gilboa jail where the incident took place and transferred all its inmates to other detention facilities including Ramon Nafha and Negev.

Israeli jailers also stopped on Monday to serve meals to Palestinians prisoners in many detention centers and jails.

Such developments have taken place after six Palestinian prisoners five of them from Islamic Jihad escaped through a tunnel from the high-security jail of Gilboa (northern Israel) in the predawn hours of Monday morning.

According to the Hebrew media Israeli forces from different military and security units are working around the clock on searching for the six prisoners whose escape has put the Israeli occupation state on red alert.

Walla news website said that large numbers of military and security forces were dispatched to Bisan area where Gilboa jail is located and over 260 new checkpoints were set up across the country.

Special units are also being used in the search operation which also involve dogs and aerial support.

According to Walla a preliminary investigation of the incident found that the female warden who was in the guard tower above the escape tunnel shaft fell asleep.

The Israeli investigation also found that the prisoners got away in a getaway car that was waiting for them nearby after they changed clothes.
