Injures reported in clashes with IOF on Gaza border areas

Friday 2-June-2017

At least one Palestinian youth was injured while others including 7 paramedics chocked on tear gas on Friday afternoon as the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) fired live bullets and tear gas canisters at the demonstrations condemning the tightened Gaza blockade in several border areas east of the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian youths gathered in five points of contact along the Israeli security fence separating the Gaza Strip and the 1948 occupied Palestinian territories and set tires on fire according to the PIC reporters.

The PIC reporter in Khan Yunis said that the IOF fired live bullets and tear gas canisters sporadically at dozens of participants in a peaceful demonstration condemning the siege causing a number of suffocation cases.

In the same context the PIC reporter in the central Gaza Strip reported that a group of Palestinian youths gathered east of al-Bureij refugee camp and ignited tires. The Israeli snipers were deployed behind the security fence amid active movement of the IOF vehicles in the area.

He added that the IOF soldiers opened fire at the demonstrators injuring one of them in the knee and he was taken to a local hospital in Deir al-Balah city.

According to the PIC reporter in Gaza city 7 paramedics suffered suffocation after the IOF fired tear gas canisters at the ambulances near Nahal Oz site east of the city.

The eastern parts of Gaza city and the northern Gaza Strip witnessed three similar demonstrations amid attempts to approach the Israeli security fence to raise Palestinian flags.

The National Committee to Break the Siege called for daily demonstrations for a week starting from Friday east of the Gaza Strip in rejection of the tightened Gaza blockade.

Israel imposed a blockade on the Gaza Strip in 2006 and tightened it in mid-2007. The pace of the blockade intensified recently following decisions taken by the Palestinian Authority (PA) government in Ramallah which included imposing taxes on the fuel sold to the Gaza power plant as well as salary cuts of more than 30% on the PA employees in Gaza and demanding Israel to stop the power supply to the Gaza Strip.
