Injuries arrests as IOF violently disbands vigil outside Ofer jail

Thursday 22-February-2018

A number of Palestinians were left injured on Wednesday after the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) violently quelled a peaceful vigil staged outside the Israeli Ofer lock-up southwest of Ramallah.

According to local sources a rally was held by Palestinian activists in solidarity with activist Mondher Ameirah who was brought before the Ofer military court in Ramallah.

The occupation forces attacked Palestinian rally-goers with randomly-discharged spates of teargas canisters and acoustic grenades resulting in several suffocation cases.

Israeli soldiers also assaulted journalists as they attempted to cover the event and kidnapped the photojournalist Mohamed Ulwan along with two other Palestinian boys.

Coordinator for the popular anti-settlement committee Jamal Jumu’a said the protesters were aggressively attacked by the Israeli military.

He added that the occupation forces pepper-sprayed the protesters in an attempt to disband the vigil.

According to Jumu’a the indictments listed against activist Mondher Ameirah who has been detained on charges of stone-throwing are counterfeit and make part of Israeli attempts to quell anti-occupation activism.
