Injuries during IOF quelling of march in Ramallah village

Friday 15-January-2021

A Palestinian youth was injured on Friday afternoon by Israeli occupation forces (IOF) while quelling a peaceful march in al-Mughayir village to the north of Ramallah.

Local sources said that the young man was shot by rubber-coated metal bullets. Several others suffered breathing difficulties as a result of the IOF firing of tear gas canisters at the citizens who were demonstrating in the Al-Qalaa area east of the village.

A march was launched from the center of al-Mughayir to the Al-Qalaa area protesting the continuous targeting of citizens and their lands by the IOF and settlers.

IOF arrested on Thursday night 16 citizens from al-Mughayir and released 6 of them at a later time and posted leaflets on the walls of homes threatening the villagers with arrest.

Ayman Abu Ali the father of the child martyr Ali Abu Aliya who was martyred on the fourth of December 2020 was arrested and released at a later time. He stated that the IOF soldiers threatened to kill his other sons.

Al-Mughayir is located to the northeast of Ramallah 22 km away from it and most of its lands are located on the eastern side which was declared by IOF as a closed military zone since its occupation of the West Bank.

The IOF set up an iron gate that completely isolates the village of Mughayir while bypass and settlement roads have seized large areas of the citizens’ lands.

The village was subjected to settlers’ attacks especially against trees. Hundreds of trees were cut down in the area. The Palestinian farmers are barred from accessing their lands due to threats on their lives.
