Intensive security measures in Gaza following Khan Younis attack

Monday 12-November-2018

The Palestinian ministry of interior and national security in Gaza has intensified the security measures throughout the besieged enclave in the aftermath of the Israeli military assault in Khan Younis.

Spokesman for the ministry Iyad al-Bazam stated that the tight security measures in Gaza came in the wake of the security developments that happened in Khan Younis in southern Gaza calling on the citizens to be cooperative with the security authorities.

Bazam also urged the citizens and media outlets not to circulate any information about what happened in Khan Younis unless it comes from the official authorities.

Israeli special forces and Hamas fighters engaged in a deadly gun battle inside Gaza late on Sunday evening straining hopes that the two sides were close to reaching a mediated ceasefire deal.

One Israeli officer and seven Palestinians were killed in the fighting near Khan Younis in southern Gaza. The initial gunfight was followed by heavy Israeli airstrikes.

Al-Qassam Brigades the armed wing of Hamas said the shooting started when an Israeli “undercover force” infiltrated Gaza and assassinated Nour Baraka one of its senior commanders.

The Israeli army infiltrators entered Gaza in a civilian vehicle and was discovered and attacked by Palestinian resistance fighters after carrying out the assassination al-Qassam Brigades said. Israeli aircrafts began launching strikes to cover the forces’ retreat out of Gaza according to the Brigades.
