Secretary General of the Islamic Christian Commission to Support Jerusalem and the Holy Sites Hanna Issa warned on Sunday of an Israeli decision giving members of the Knesset (Israeli parliament) a green light to storm al-Aqsa Mosque.
Dr. Hanna said the decision aims to impose a new fait accompli at the site by boosting Jewish presence.
Dr. Hanna dubbed the decision a sign of the terrorism inherent in the Israeli government politics saying the move not only signals the go-ahead for Israeli break-ins at al-Aqsa but also encourages fanatic settlers to desecrate the site.
The commission called on the international community and Security Council to take urgent steps so as to push the Israeli occupation to backtrack on the decision cease its violations against sacred places of worship and abide by its obligations under international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
The statement urged the Palestinians to intensify presence at the site so as to defend it against Israel’s sacrilegious schemes.
