Jerusalemite Islamic institutions have warned of Israel’s attempts to impose a new fait accompli at the Aqsa Mosque by allowing Jewish settlers to perform rituals in its courtyards.
This came in a joint statement issued by the Islamic Awqaf Bureau the Higher Islamic Commission the Palestinian Fatwa House and the Islamic Awqaf Affairs and Holy sites Council.
The institutions accused the Israeli police of allowing Jewish fanatics to organize provocative mass break-ins at the Aqsa Mosque and ignoring the rituals they perform in its courtyards as a prelude to imposing a new situation at the Islamic holy site.
Their statement pointed out that ahead of the Hebrew Passover holiday the Israeli police carried out mass arrests against Palestinian Muslims in Jerusalem banished many of them from the Aqsa Mosque and laid siege to the Old City and its vicinity turning it into a military outpost.
They also talked about Israel’s Judaization activities at the Umayyad Palaces site south of the Aqsa Mosque and denounced its practices there as “unprecedented.”
The Jerusalemite institutions expressed their rejection of Israel’s escalation of its repressive barbaric and police measures in east Jerusalem and at the Aqsa Mosque during Jewish holidays and festivals calling on the Arab and Islamic worlds to act to protect the holy city.
