The Israeli National Planning and Building Committee in Occupied Jerusalem has approved the construction of 1200 housing units in the Kiryat Yuval settlement neighborhood illegally built in the holy city.
The plan includes the demolition of five 8-storey buildings and the construction of 1200 housing units on a total area of 30000 square meters.
A Jewish synagogue a school 11 kindergartens and other buildings will all be built in the area.
Israeli authorities earlier approved the construction of two major Jewish-only towns in the Negev as part of a settlement expansion plan in proximity to areas where Palestinian citizens of Israel live.
The plan would establish a town for ultra-orthodox Jews and a town for secularists.
Commenting on the plan Hamas Movement considered “this step as a desperate attempt to extend the Israeli occupation’s control over more Palestinian land.”
Hamas spokesperson Abdel Latif Al-Qanou further said approving 1200 new housing units in Occupied Jerusalem is a new Israeli crime that came as part of the ongoing aggression against Palestinian lands and holy sites.
Al-Qanou warned against the serious consequences of the Israeli decision as Palestinians will not remain silent amid the Israeli continued settlement expansion.
The plan came amid total regional and international silence and inaction he added.
Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories including Jerusalem are regarded as illegal under international law and by much of the international community.
