Israeli occupation authorities on Wednesday decided to close Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing between the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian territories occupied since 1948.
The Israeli army said in a statement that the closure came due to “riots” of hundreds of Palestinian protesters who damaged the infrastructure of the crossing on the Palestinian side on Tuesday.
The army pointed out that the crossing will be closed until the damage is repaired adding that the closure does not include humanitarian cases which will be approved on a case-by-case basis.
The statement did not mention when the crossing which was re-opened on 27th August after a one-week closure will be opened.
The Higher National Committee for the Great March of Return and Breaking the Siege on Tuesday organized a mass demonstration toward Erez crossing with the participation of hundreds of Palestinians under the slogan “together to protect the rights of refugees”.
The Gaza Strip which is inhabited by nearly two million Palestinians has been living under a crippling blockade imposed by Israel since 2006.
