Israel finalizes apartheid wall around Palestinian village of Walaja

Wednesday 26-April-2017

The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) installed an electronic wall around the Palestinian village of al-Walaja in Occupied Jerusalem finalizing an apartheid fence engulfing the area from all corners.

Member of al-Walaja Village Council Omar Hajajla said the Israeli army has closed off Ein Jweizah neighborhood with an electronic wall as part of underway efforts to fence off al-Walaja.

According to Mr. Issa the Palestinian natives of al-Walaja can now enter the area only through the access road to Har Gilo settlement outpost.

Following the mass exodus of 1948 al-Walaja inhabitants had been forcibly deported from their homes to such neighboring countries as Jordan Syria and Lebanon. Statistics-based studies estimate that 30000 Palestinians from al-Walaja are taking shelter outside the village.

Over recent months the Israeli authorities issued 100 demolition orders in al-Walaja home to 2500 inhabitants. 36 homes had already been demolished.

Issa urged the concerned bodies to rally round al-Walaja inhabitants and take urgent action vis-à-vis Israel’s ethnic cleansing schemes in the area.
