Israel plans to expand settlement fivefold in southern Nablus

Ghassan Daghlas an official monitoring the settlement activity in the northern West Bank said on Sunday that the Israeli occupation authorities funded a plan to expand the Shvut Rachel settlement by adding 534 new housing units on the Palestinian citizens’ lands in Jalud and Turmusaya south of Nablus.

Daghlas added in a press statement that the approval of the new plan will double the settlers’ units to almost five times in the settlement that was established in 1991.

He stressed that the documents approved by the so-called Israeli Supreme Planning Council at the end of last May to expand Shvut Rachel show that the construction will take place on an area estimated at 376 dunums of the lands of Jalud and Turmusaya.

Daghlas pointed out that the plan aims to change the allocation of land from agricultural to residential areas public and commercial institutions open spaces and engineering facilities.
