Israel prison forces wreak havoc on prisoners’ cells

Wednesday 10-October-2018

Israel prison guards on Wednesday stormed Palestinian prisoners’ cells at Nafha jail and violently searched them.

Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said in a statement that Israeli guards in the early morning hours broke into some prison sections and ravaged Palestinian prisoners’ belongings.

In a related context the Palestinian Prisoner Society on Wednesday said that the Israel Prison Service at Gilboa prison about a month ago assaulted Palestinian prisoners and decided to ban family visits for 34 detainees for three months.

Hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli lock-ups are currently denied family visits under different security pretexts. Some prisoners face this punishment for starting hunger strikes or based on a Shin Bet order.

In another context Israel’s Salem military court on Wednesday imposed a one-year prison sentence and a 3000 NIS fine on the Palestinian detainee Ahmad Abu Baker.

The Israeli occupation forces arrested Abu Baker from his house in Ya’bad town southwest of Jenin on 13 December 2017.

Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission said that an Israeli court on Tuesday decided to sentence the longest-serving Syrian prisoner in Israeli jails Sulaiman al-Maqat for 11 years in prison.

Al-Maqat was released in August 2012 after serving 27 years in Israeli jails. The Israeli authorities re-arrested him from his house in Golan in February 2015.

Based on official statistics there are about 6500 Palestinian prisoners languishing in Israeli jails 350 of whom are minors 62 are women 6 are members of the Palestinian Legislative Council 500 are detained without charge or trial and 1800 are having serious health problems.
