Israeli early release committee on Thursday rejected an appeal to release the cancer-stricken Palestinian prisoner Nasser Abu Hamid despite his deteriorating health condition.
Spokesperson of the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority Hassan Abd Rabbo told WAFA news agency that the Israeli committee rejected the appeal submitted by prisoner Abu Hamid’s lawyer based on a medical recommendation stated by the Israeli hospital Assaf Harofeh to release Abu Hamid to get the care he needs.
Last September Abu Hamid rejected dealing with a proposal suggested by his lawyer to submit a petition for pardon to the President of Israel to release him.
Since August 2021 prisoner Nasser’s health has been severely deteriorating due to the Israeli policy of medical negligence. He was later diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his lungs.
49-year-old Nasser Abu Hamid from the Al-Amari camp refugee camp in Ramallah who has been detained since 2002 is serving seven life imprisonment sentences and 50 years.
Around 600 patients including 23 diagnosed with cancer or cancerous tumors are being held in Israeli prisons.
