Israeli committee rejects early release of prisoner Shobaki

Israeli early release committee on Tuesday rejected an appeal to release the oldest Palestinian prisoner Fouad Shobaki who is supposed to be released in eight months the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) reported.

The committee after legal efforts decided last month to appoint a session to decide on the early release of Shobaki whose health has been severely deteriorating.

In 2006 Israeli occupation forces kidnapped Shobaki from the Palestinian Jericho prison. He faced a trial in an Israeli military court where he was eventually sentenced to 20 years in jail later decreased to 17. He was accused of being responsible for attempts to smuggle a large shipment of weapons to the Gaza Strip through the ship Karen A in 2002.

83-year-old Palestinian prisoner Shobaki from Gaza who is the eldest prisoner in the Israeli prisons is diagnosed with prostate cancer. He also suffers from pain in his eyes stomach and heart in addition to hypertension.
