Tuesday 28-August-2012

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (PIC)– Israeli Central Court in Haifa exonerated the Israeli occupation army of the murder of American activist Rachel Corrie who was crushed to death by an army bulldozer when she tried to prevent the demolition of Palestinian homes in Rafah nine years ago.

Corrie was killed on 16 March 2003 she was crushed under an Israeli military bulldozer while trying to obstruct the demolition of a Palestinian home in Rafah on the Gaza-Egypt border.

Corrie was a 23-year-old US activist with the International Solidarity Movement and was crushed to death by a US-made Israeli-modified Caterpillar D9-R bulldozer.

Hussein Abu Hussein Corrie’s family lawyer filed a lawsuit in 2005 against Israel for the state’s responsibility in her murder in March 2003.

The death of pro-Palestinian activist Rachel Corrie was a “regrettable accident” for which the state of Israel was not responsible a judge has ruled dismissing a civil lawsuit brought by the family.

The young American had “put herself in a dangerous situation” and her death was not caused by the negligence of the Israeli state or army said Judge Oded Gershon at Haifa district court.

The Palestinian ministry of justice considered the court’s verdict a proof to the fragility and dependence of the Israeli judiciary adding that it is another example of where impunity has prevailed over accountability and fairness.

The ministry stated that it is a bad day for human rights and the rule of law condemning the international organizations’ silence towards this verdict that may encourage Israeli crimes as it added in a statement issued on Tuesday.

For his part independent MP Jamal El-Khoudary the head of the Popular Committee against Siege on Gaza stated that Rachel Corrie’s killing is a crime against humanity which cannot be forgotten or denied.

The pro-Palestinian activist Rachel Corrie came to Gaza in solidarity with the Palestinian people who are subjected to continued Israeli crimes. She was standing in front of an army bulldozer as she attempted to prevent Palestinian house demolitions he added in a statement.

He praised the human activists’ important role in supporting the Palestinian cause.
