The Israeli military court in Ofer on Sunday extended the Islamic Jihad leader Bassam as-Saadi’s detention order for five days.
According to the Israeli website Ynet the Israeli military prosecution issued an indictment against as-Saadi charging him with “conducting operations for a terror group incitement and supporting terrorism.”
For his part as-Saadi who had been detained since the beginning of August contested all the charges. His defense team said his statements were not incitement but rather of political nature.
On the 1st of August 2022 the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) arrested as-Saadi. In response the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement Al-Quds Brigades had declared a state of alert arising its fighters’ readiness.
The Israeli occupation army then launched a three-day aggression against the Gaza Strip starting with the assassination of the Islamic Jihad commander Taysir al-Jabari after it remained on high alert along the border with the Gaza Strip for four days.
A ceasefire between the resistance in Gaza and Israel entered into force with Egyptian mediation providing that Egypt will work towards releasing Saadi along with the hunger striker Khalil Awawde.
