Israeli court jails Palestinian for 23 years over stabbing incident

Monday 20-June-2022

An Israeli court sentenced on Monday a Palestinian prisoner to 23 years in jail for allegedly stabbing and injuring a Jewish woman in Afula City four years ago.

Israeli Hayom newspaper said that prisoner Nouruddin Shinnawi from Jenin City also received a two-year suspended sentence and was ordered to pay 250000 shekels in restitution to the woman.

According to the newspaper Shinnawi was injured in his leg after Israeli police officers chased him and opened fire at him following the stabbing incident.

An Israeli prosecutor claimed that Shinnawi stabbed the woman to avenge his mother who had been assaulted by police officers at the Aqsa Mosque and his friends Mohamed and Nour Saabneh who were shot dead by Israeli soldiers in 2015 at the Huwara checkpoint near Nablus.
