The Israeli high court of justice on Monday issued a verdict allowing the evacuation of a Jerusalemite family from its house in Wadi Hilweh neighborhood in Silwan district and giving the property to Jewish settlers.
The court order was issued in favor of the Elad settler group a right-wing organization that seeks to Judaize the holy city.
The court gave the family of Ezzat Salah until November 5 2020 to comply with its decision.
According to the Wadi Hilweh Information Center the case of the Salah family started in 2015 when someone called Aref Qara’ein claimed to have been the landowner and filed a request to take possession of the house which contains an apartment a yard and other premises.
Later Qara’ein was able to take part of the house following a court order in this regard and decided to sell it in 2017 to Jewish settlers.
At the time Elad group was able to take over most of the property except for the apartment in which the Jerusalemite family has been living since 1968 before managing today to extract another court decision ordering the eviction of the family from its home.
