Israeli court rejects petition to release prisoner Manasra

Thursday 1-September-2022

The Israeli court in Beersheba on Thursday rejected a petition to release Palestinian prisoner Ahmad Manasra who is being held in solitary confinement.

According to lawyer Khaled Zabarqa an Israeli judicial committee claimed that there is no danger threatening Manasra’s life or requiring his release adding that the “terrorism” designation of Ahmad’s case cannot be removed.

Manasra told Palestinian journalists who managed to cover his court session that he “longs for freedom” adding that he would rather be in the company of other Palestinian prisoners (instead of his current solitary confinement).

In 2015 the then 13-year-old Ahmad was arrested and interrogated under horrific circumstances which affected his mental health condition. His mental health was further exacerbated due to his continued solitary confinement.

Human rights organizations and psychological experts had called for releasing Ahmad immediately in order to get the psychological support he needs and to receive proper treatment.
