The Israeli occupation police on Sunday morning physically assaulted dozens of Palestinian citizens as they tried to reach the Aqsa Mosque’s closed gates in order to perform the Eid al-Fitr prayer.
According to local sources a number of Muslim worshipers including elderlies suffered injuries when police forces attacked them with rifles and batons.
However dozens of worshipers managed to reach al-Ghazala Square where they performed the Eid prayer after storming road barriers and clashing with police forces.
Following the prayer the worshipers in the square listened to the Eid khutba (sermon) which was delivered by a preacher inside the Aqsa Mosque.
Except for mosque guards and Awqaf employees Muslim worshipers have been unable to perform daily prayers at the holy site for nearly two months as a measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
