The Israeli occupation police on Friday assaulted Palestinian citizens and kidnaped two of them as they rallied in solidarity with the family of Salem who is threatened with displacement from its home in the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah.

According to local sources dozens of Jerusalemite citizens performed the Friday prayer outside the house of Salem to express their solidarity with the family but police forces violently assaulted them following the prayer and showered them with stun grenades.

Two young men were reportedly rounded up by police officers during the events in the neighborhood.

Sheikh Ekrima Sabri Aqsa Mosque preacher participated in the solidarity rally in Sheikh Jarrah and delivered a Friday khutba (sermon).

“Our right to Jerusalem cannot be subject to negotiation or discussion because this land is the land of Isra and Mi’raj” Sheikh Sabri said.

“Sheikh Jarrah is a historic neighborhood and an integral part of Jerusalem City which is an Islamic mortmain city and will remain so until the Day of Resurrection” he added.

The family of Salem recently received a notice from the Israeli occupation authority ordering it to evacuate its home to make way for Jewish settlers.

Jerusalemite families living in 27 homes in Sheikh Jarrah face Israeli eviction threats.

In a separate incident Jerusalemite young men on Friday evening fended off a horde of armed settlers as they tried to assault them in al-Wad street in the Old City.

Settlers also assaulted and injured a Jerusalemite young man in Bab al-Khalil area in the Old City.
