The people of Kafr Dan town west of the West Bank city of Jenin on Monday protested the Palestinian government’s decision stipulating the confiscation of their lands. The Inhabitants’ estates were declared as properties owned by Palestine Investment Fund (PIF) for the establishment of a solar energy project.
Head of Kafr Dan town’s council Bilal Mari said in a meeting with deputy mayor of Jenin city Kamal Abu al-Rub that the inhabitants were shocked with the decision. They strongly condemned the government’s resolution especially that the Awqaf (Endowment) Ministry possesses 92 dunums adjacent to the public estates to be confiscated that could be used for the project. The PIF also has rented 37 dunums of the town’s land which also could be used for that purpose Mari pointed out.
He demanded that the land must be replaced since the municipality needs the land for future projects because of its good location for the establishment of schools and public facilities.
