Landslide victory for Hamas bloc in the UNRWA staff union elections

GAZA (PIC)– The Professional list in the Staff Union of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) headed by Suhail al-Hindi swept the majority of seats in the Staff Union (UNRWA) election in the Gaza Strip conducted on Sunday.

Some 9500 UNRWA workers participated in the election with the turnout being estimated at more than 80 percent despite Fatah’s boycott of the election sources told PIC. The professional list has won overwhelmingly in three UNRWA workers groups: the employees’ teachers’ and services’ unions.

The results showed that the professional list won all 11 seats of the teachers’ union and 6 out of 7 seats of the employees’ union and 8 out of 9 seats of the services’ union.

The professional list’s victory confirmed the UNRWA workers’ confidence in the staff union and its activities during the previous stage prompting them to renew confidence on it.

The professional list affiliated to Hamas movement won the staff election for the second time in a row.
