MP Zahhar slams new Israeli law aimed at seizing prisoners’ salaries

Tuesday 21-April-2020

Palestinian lawmaker Mahmoud al-Zahhar has described the new Israeli military legislation on the confiscation of money allocated to Palestinian prisoners as “a flagrant legal and moral violation of human rights and international law.”

In press remarks on Tuesday Zahhar a senior Hamas official condemned the Israeli occupation authority’s “persistence in targeting and blackmailing the Palestinian prisoners through making a set of racist laws aimed at breaking their will and punishing them.”

The lawmaker affirmed that the Palestinian Legislative Council would never forsake the Palestinian prisoners who confronted the occupation and offered their lives and freedom for the sake of their people and homeland.

He called on the international community and human rights groups to pressure the Israelis to end their restrictions on the Palestinian prisoners and their legitimate rights.

The Hebrew media on Monday revealed that the Israeli military commander in the occupied West Bank recently signed a new decree considering the stipends paid to Palestinian prisoners “prohibited money.”

According to Israel’s channel seven this military order will take effect as of May 9 and will allow Israel to confiscate prisoners’ stipends from banks or Palestinian citizens.
