Maher Salah: Hamas seeking to establish friendly ties with all parties

Hamas leader aboard Maher Salah reiterated his movement’s and Palestinians’ commitment to national reconciliation and peace in the world.

Speaking with al-Resalah.Net news site Salah said reconciliation seems to be unachievable owing to the reluctance and apathy maintained by Mahmoud Abbas as regards Palestinians’ most urgent needs and interests.

Salah also said Hamas’ efforts have been underway to lift the crippling Israeli siege on Gaza.

The Hamas leader lauded Egypt’s initiatives to heal the Palestinian rift and end the tough Gaza siege.

According to Salah the Great March of Return protests staged at the Gaza border have triggered fruitful responses by the UN and such donor parties as Qatar.

He added that Hamas has been doing its best to smooth reconstruction projects in the blockaded enclave recover workers’ salaries and recuperate the power plant.

Harking back to the challenges faced by Hamas 31 years after its inception Salah said the movement has gone through more than a few political and security hurdles most notable among which is the support provided by western governments to Israel at the security media legal and cultural levels.

Commenting on the visit paid by Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Oman Salah said Hamas expressed during a meeting with a senior Omani official its deep-seated dismay at Netanyahu’s visit.

He said that recently Hamas delegations have visited several countries including Egypt Qatar Turkey Iran Lebanon Morocco Mauritania Algeria Malaysia and South Africa in an attempt to mobilize support for the Palestinian cause.

Media reports said the Hamas chief Ismail Haneyya will also pop in Moscow and other countries sometime soon.

As for Hamas ties with European envoys Salah said that secret and public meetings have been taking place with EU representatives adding that the latter often end up updating their governments and foreign ministries on the upshots of such encounters.

Regarding the relationship with Russia the Hamas leader said Russia’s position has been in favor of the Palestinians as it rejected a UN resolution dubbing Hamas a terror group.

He stressed Hamas’ eagerness to get in touch with all national and international parties in order to boost support for Palestine and spread peace in the world.

Salah said the relationship with Iran is taking a turn for the better with the latter propping up its support for the Palestinian people and anti-occupation resistance.

At the same time Salah warned of the repercussions of Trump’s “deal of the century” which aims at changing the status quo in occupied Jerusalem and infringing Palestinians’ right of return to their homeland.

Salah also reiterated Hamas’ commitment to the principle of non-interference regarding government’s internal affairs and Arab and international conflicts including the Syrian conflict.
