A mass rally was staged by Sheikh Yassin Group in France on Saturday to condemn the Israeli crackdowns and measures at al-Aqsa Mosque—the third holiest site in Islam.
Hundreds of protesters flocked to Saint Michel Square in Paris in solidarity with the Muslim sit-inners and worshipers at al-Aqsa Mosque.
The event held under the slogan “Al-Aqsa . . . Red Line and Point of No Return for Nearly 2 Billion Muslims” warned of the repercussions of the Israeli oppressive measures and scaffolding set up around al-Aqsa.
Mock-metal detectors were put on display during the rally.
Head of Sheikh Yassin Group Abdul Hakim al-Safreiwi slammed the silence maintained by several western states including France as regards the Israeli crimes against the Palestinians.
Al-Safreiwi strongly condemned the European Court for blacklisting Hamas saying the latter is a resistance movement that defends its land people and holy sites.
Reaching out to the rally by phone Jerusalem’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohamed Hussein hailed the protesters and vowed that the Palestinians will forever stand their ground in the face of Israel’s sacrilegious schemes.
Al-Aqsa Imam Sheikh Ekrema Sabri also spoke to the rally-goers by phone and thanked them for their support for the Palestinian cause and people.
