Tens of thousands of Palestinian citizens on Monday participated in a march called for by the UNRW employees union in Gaza City to demand UNRWA operation director Matthias Schmale to step down.
The participants carried out placards calling on Schmale to leave Gaza and resign protesting comments he made recently to Israeli TV in which he justified the targeting of civilians and their homes in Gaza downplayed the size of human losses and destruction and lauded the Israeli occupation army’s ability to bomb targets with accuracy.
The participants rallied in front of the UNRWA headquarters in Gaza City before marching to the Ansar rotary in the west of the city.
“We cannot calm down unless UNRWA operations director and his deputy leave due to their major failures” head of the UNRWA employees union Amir al-Mes’hal said during the march.
Mes’hal stressed that the march was held to express the Palestinian people’s anger at what Schmale had said.
