Mauritanian president Mohamed Ould Ghazouani on Monday received at the presidential palace in Nouakchott a high-level delegation from the Hamas Movement led by its political bureau chief Ismail Haneyya.
The Hamas delegation included Mousa Abu Marzouk Khalil al-Hayya Ezzat al-Resheq Maher Obaid Sami Abu Zuhri and Mohamed Saqer.
According to the Mauritanian News Agency the meeting was attended by senior presidential aides including Adama Bocar Soko secretary-general of Mauritania’s presidency.
The Hamas delegation arrived in Nouakchott at dawn Monday following an official visit to Morocco.
During the meeting president Ould Ghazouani asserted his country’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their struggle against the occupation and its allegiance to the Palestinian cause’s constants.
The president also applauded the Palestinian people for their steadfastness in the face of the occupation especially during the Sword of Jerusalem battle.
For his part Hamas’s political chief expressed his appreciation to the Mauritanian leadership and people for their distinguished position in support of the Palestinian cause and the massive popular rallies that were staged lately in the country in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Haneyya affirmed his Movement’s adherence to the achievement of the Palestinian unity and welcomed any role that could be played by Mauritania and contribute to healing the rift in the Palestinian arena.
He also highlighted Hamas’s upholding of the resistance option as the only choice to protect and restore the Palestinian holy sites and national rights.
The Hamas leader also briefed the president on the difficult humanitarian conditions the Palestinians suffer from in Gaza and across Palestine as a result of Israel’s practices as well as the political situation and the latest developments on the ground following the Sward of Jerusalem battle.
In the afternoon the Hamas delegation also had the chance to meet with head of the Union for the Republic party Sidi Mohamed Ould Taleb Amar and other party officials.
